STUART — With just a single sheet of paper, a few art supplies and their imaginations, 130 Martin County students created compelling poster art for Waste Management’s annual Think Green contest. This year’s first and second place winners were both Stuart Middle School students in Kathleen Bartemes’s art classes.
Stuart Middle School sixth-grader Alicia Kuczynski’s entry was chosen as the winner. Her award-winning art will be displayed throughout Martin County as an enlarged replica of her poster makes its way around town on the side of a Waste Management truck. The artwork was evaluated by a committee representing the environment, education and the arts. Mary Dawson, executive director of Sustaining Community Lands, Martin County School Board Member Michael Busha and local artist Brenda Leigh judged the entries on creativity, neatness, skill level and adherence to the rules.
