The new water bottle refilling stations on campus do more than merely refilling bottles.
Though it takes dollars to implement these new water fountains in University facilities, the new refill stations actually save money in the long term.[snip]
The first water refilling station was installed in the Ecology Building, an addition actually brought about by students.
The water in the refill stations is sent through a filter so that once a student places his or her empty water bottle next to the censor, the desired amount of purified water fills the bottle. A digital counter on the top right hand corner of the machine denotes the number of plastic bottles that were avoided by refilling a bottle through the station.
The glowing numbers are small reminders that when refilling an old water bottle, students are avoiding use of another disposable water bottle.
