Schoolwide efforts draw nod from National Wildlife Federation
Lanier Middle School’s yearlong effort to be more eco-friendly recently gained the school notice from the National Wildlife Federation’s Eco-Schools USA program.[snip]
One such effort was the transformation of Lanier Middle’s courtyard from a nearly barren plot to a mulch-covered slice of wilderness, which began in November.
Today, it is unrecognizable from where it started at the beginning of the school year, students and school staff said.
Armed with wheelbarrows, shovels and rakes, students, teachers and community members planted 75 new plants and trees in the yard and even added a pond.
