The first pond is nearly ready. Now it’s up to the frogs to hop to it. ”It’s better for frogs to appear naturally,” Kevin Heller of Braceville said. “It takes about two weeks for frogs to appear naturally.”
Heller, 18, was awarded one of 10 Planet Connect grants nationally to fund a wildlife conservation project. Heller received the $1,000 toward his plan to build two frog ponds, one at his high school and the other at the elementary school down the road for aquatic studies.
“Kids like frogs. Kids like animals,” Heller said. “I think it would cause kids to venture out into the world.”
He spent bundles of hours outdoors as a youngster and hopes to make a career of it himself.
