Humanities.

In 2012 The European Union was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for helping to prevent war in Europe for the last 25 years. During a speech at the Wholistic Peace Institute in Portland, Oregon in 2012, Ambassador João Vale de Almeida, the European Union's Ambassador to the United States stated that "the Nobel values" have helped keep Europe out of wars.

But what exactly are "the Nobel values"? And who exactly was the historical figure of Alfred Nobel? How and why did one of the world's most wealthy industrialists give away his personal fortune to establish a peace prize?

There is a wonderful narrative of Alfred Nobel's personal and intellectual evolution that led to the creation of the most famous of all the Nobel Prizes: The Nobel Peace Prize.

In fact Alfred Nobel's life can be summed up in these "Nobel Values" that have changed the world: education, science, business and peace.

So, before there was a Nobel Peace Prize, there was one of the world's greatest capitalist and industrialist, who along with his brothers built the world's greatest business empires on oil and dynamite. And before Alfred Nobel was an industrialist, he was a scientist who held many patents, including stabilizing nitroglycerin and naming it Dynamite. And before Alfred Nobel was a scientist he was a student.

Rabbi Joshua Stampfer of Neveh Shalom in Portland, Oregon said that the person he most admired was Alfred Nobel…."Alfred Nobel elevated the concept of peace to the level of science."

The Nobel Peace Curriculum™ seeks to elevate the teaching of Peace, to the level at which we teach science.

These days Peace has a lot of Baggage. Ideology, religion, politics can be polarizing even on an issue as unifying as Peace.

During Alfred Nobel's lifetime, only kings, popes and generals could declare war. And they did. The average citizen mattered only as cannon fodder. They could not start the war, and they could not end the war. But they could fight in a war. And they did. There was a complete disconnect between the citizen who fought the wars and the nation states who declared war, not unlike today's much deadlier imbalance.

But what Alfred Nobel realized, was to create was the world's first positive feedback loop against war, you must do so through Ethics. This philanthropic position stated, that to stop war--you do not fight war--you promote peace. It is not ideology, religion or politics that achieve Peace, it is the Ethics – which we all agree upon – of Peace as a universal human right.

United Earth's mission is to bring peace education into our school systems through strategic partnerships with community and charter schools; to complete Alfred Nobel's genius by continuing to build positive feedback loops, against war through philanthropy, and by bringing a super-majority of global citizens into the Tent of Peace.

Today, with social media, the Internet, and smart phones, the average citizen has a voice that has not yet been fully integrated into our political and social institutions. This is especially true when it comes to the issues of War and Peace.
